MEDITATION
There are two ways to know the divine: through meditation and through love. Either way, we become one with the whole, since through love we are in meditation, and through meditation we are in love.
Meditation is simple. It’s all about expanding consciousness, which involves the transformation of unconsciousness into consciousness.
For example, a candle lit in a house with drawn drapes won’t reveal all the contents of the house. But if we open the drapes and allow the sunlight in, the contents of the house become visible. Similarly, in our own case, if we assume that only 3% of our psyche is consciously active and the remainder is unconscious, meditation is like opening the drapes and illumining our whole being so we are 100% conscious.
Along the road to the bliss meditation makes possible, the meditative process helps us identify and eliminate anxiety, sharpens our awareness, enhances our power of attention, opens us up to higher dimensional possibilities, and reveals our true One Self.
We cannot “arrive” at our One Self because there’s no-thing that’s a destination. There’s nowhere we are trying to get to. Instead, we can continually realize our One Self. Wherever we are, we are always at the beginning and always complete at the same instant.
Thus meditation isn’t result-oriented. It isn’t about the egoic mind and its thinking activities. Rather, it’s no thinking, no activity. It involves emptying ourselves, cleansing our One Self from the illusions of the egoic mind. Thus it creates the opportunity for stillness.
Once the mind stops, meditation invites us to a higher process of being. Stunning revelations may await us beyond the next corner of our mind!
For this reason, it’s valuable to meditate daily, even hourly, and better yet constantly. If we are hyperactive and can’t stand being passive for long, we can alternate quiet moments with activity. All we have to do is bring our listening, observing, and witnessing to what we are doing. In other words, we do everything meditatively instead of unconsciously and mechanically.
It’s possible to always act with a meditative awareness of our One Self. This can give us the same experience of being in the moment as would a prolonged formal meditation.
